Bergamot, oil, fibers, and terracotta are more than local emblems. Each material preserves a chain of gestures: cultivating, extracting, weaving, shaping, preserving. Observing them closely allows us to read the relationship between climate, labor, and the transmission of knowledge, without reducing them to decorative objects. The dossier follows surfaces and processes, from rind to weave, from earth to finished form. It is an investigation into the things made and the knowledge that makes them possible.
Research note: before publication, identify specific records and publications regarding bergamot production in Reggio Calabria and the agricultural and artisanal practices of the Reggio and Locri areas; verify the author, institution, date, and relevance of every ethno-anthropological reference.
The following images are interpretative editorial elaborations, not photographs of specific producers or artifacts.
